BELVIDERE, N.J. – The Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission today announced that preparation activities will soon begin for a project involving a series of improvements along the agency-owned 700-foot stretch of Water Street in Belvidere, N.J.

The project’s contractor is expected to begin pre-construction mobilization activities -installation of a field trailer, surveying and erosion control measures – during the week of August 20. Construction activities are expected to fully ramp up during the week of August 27. Work is to be substantially completed in time for the annual Belvidere Halloween parade in October.

The work will involve crack sealing and overlay of the existing concrete roadway, repair and/or replacements of existing sidewalk segments along the north side of the roadway, replacement of damaged curbing, drainage repairs, and upgrade of guide rail to current standards. The project also will include installation of decorative lighting.

Traffic restrictions should be limited. The contractor is required to maintain at least one lane of alternating traffic on Water Street while work is taking place, enabling motorists to access the Commission’s nearby Riverton-Belvidere Toll-Supported Bridge and Belvidere’s business district. To complete the project, the Water Street/Wall Street intersection will need to be closed for a period of time while work is taking place. Also, truck traffic may need to be diverted to Wall Street during a stage of construction.
