Greetings and Salutations

2009 October 1

Belvidere is a special place.  As the sign on Route 46 proudly explains, it is “New Jersey’s best kept secret”.  So why go public like this and risk letting the cat out of bag?

Well, I believe what makes an old fashioned town like ours so appealing is it’s people.   As a community we care for and interact with one another in a way which many other areas would envy.  Families seek out and discover Belvidere as a wonderful place to raise their children.  Seniors leave their beloved homes and retire around here, because it reminds them of a time forgotten. Visitors come for our magnificent landscape and rivers.  Generations old Belvidereians have remained, because they have roots as deep as the trees in the green.  Belvidere is the only place, that I know of, that is both fresh with new life and yet, respects and preserves it’s history.

This site is to be just another tool, in which, to enhance the way we already communicate, work and play together. While nothing can or should replace the way we have historically gathered, whether it be in our places of worship; family dinner tables; schools; libraries; ball fields; organizations; local businesses or, of course, the green.  In by sharing our experiences with one another, however, maybe we will come to appreciate and utilize a little better all that we have.  I hope you will join discussion.

Over the next few weeks, Belvidere Green, will be testing different ways to make this site more enjoyable and beneficial in both content and tools.  Please feel free to comment below each post and let me know what you think, so that we can continually improve your experience.  I would also like to note that Belvidere is what it is, in part, because of our great neighbors.  Many of whom work, shop and enjoy all that this town has to offer.  These people are rightfully considered an integral part of our community.  Please make Belvidere Green your information source and home, as well. Hello, I`m not from Belvidere, but read your blog.
My family and I hung out at Doe Hollow watercraft rentals [one mile up from Belv bridge] for years.
The place went out of business in 1989, & the Healeys moved out in 2001.
However we still drive up from Phila, to go to the sales, & see the river.
So, since I`m not near-by, I really appreciate being in- the- know thru this site.
Please keep up the good work.
    Sandy

Sandy, thank you for the kind words. In my mind, no matter the distance, you are what I call a true Belvidereian.
