Memorial Day in Belvidere

2010 May 28

Ceremony and Parade

Why drive when one of the best travel destinations is our own town?  American Legion Post #131 in Belvidere, NJ will once again be honoring all those individuals who sacrificed their lives, so that their family’s and future generations of Americans (and many other places around the globe) can continue to live with one another as a free people.  These courageous fallen citizens never asked for a fight, but responded only when what they hold dear was threatened.  It is only right that we all pause and remember their valor.

According to the American Legion’s ad in the Riverbend Advertiser you are invited to participate and/or attend the Ceremony & Parade on Monday, May 31st. For those marching in the parade, line up will be in front of the American Legion Post Home on Greenwich Street at 8:30 am, with “step-off” being promptly at 9:00 am.

For more information call Jim Crane (908) 475-5133.  Please note that this is a daytime number.

My deepest sympathy and prayers go out to the family and friends of  William L. Miller, Jr. who passed away “peacefully” this past Sunday, May 23, 2010.
Mr. Miller was the current Commander of both, American Legion Post #130 (Belvidere) and Warren County American Legion.
Many in our area may also remember him as the owner and operator of the Paradise Pet Shop.  My children loved to visit his shop and Mr. Miller was always kind enough to let them look around at all the animals.  I am very grateful for his service to our country & community and like many others in Belvidere, I will be thinking of him this Memorial Day.
    God Bless

Bill Miller was the FIRST person to welcome us to Belvidere, NJ 5 years ago. Quickly after we moved into our Water street home, the flood of 2006 occurred. Bill helped us emotionally and supported us with kind words, direction and support. He was proud that he served our country and many respected him. We will miss Bill, and hope that his family knows how much he made an impact on his community and the lives of others.
